Sarah Presland
I find and solve problems creatively by listening to and understanding people.
I bring a unique perspective and eclectic variety of transferable skills to UX with a background in interior design, visual merchandise, hospitality, and customer service. I am enthusiastic, creative, curious and honest.

I use my skills to uncover real problems for users and ensure that I meet business goals and improve the user experience by providing viable and realistic solutions.

About Me
When I was looking for a more satisfying and rewarding career my research led me to UX.
Most people I know haven't heard of UX before. I explain it with a question: "Have you ever used a website or app that made you want to throw your phone out the window?" So far everyone has said "Yes". I tell them that eliminating those problems and making things better is what UX is all about. That is what I do now, solve real problems for real people.

I approach problem-solving as an exercise in listening to and understanding a client's needs and wants. Only then can I design an appropriate and viable solution to the problem. Through my volunteer work with Architects Without Frontiers I know that the fanciest solution may not always be the best outcome for a problem. A solution needs to be viable, realistic and practical as well as beautiful to be a success.

I employ an end-user-first approach when working on projects, and always consider the problem space from multiple perspectives. My team and I delivered a successful solution to a client even after having to pivot away from the brief. Our key feature was in response to a problem space that had not yet been discovered by the clients' team. The solution met the needs of first and secondary stakeholders and covered the business goals in the brief.
It was added to the mobile development backlog. The desktop team put it on their roadmap for future investigation as they could see it being of use to all users across all platforms.

I look forward to hearing from you in order to discuss how I will fit into your team.

Feedback from my Classmates
I spent six months on a Zoom adventure with a bunch of great people. Due to Covid restrictions we were unable to meet up in person for any lessons, team project meetings or even for a coffee but it never felt like I was doing the course on my own.
I thought I would let them tell you a little about me before I continue with my own story.....
